Phoenix Collegiate – Summer 2020 Exam Appeals Process

If a student is unhappy with an exam result they have received from this Summer they may have the opportunity to appeal the grade to the exam board who provided the result. Firstly, the student must inform the school of the subject and grade they are querying and complete a JCQ appeal form (attached below) so the school can start the procedure. As the appeal process can take up to 42 days for a response from the exam boards, they recommend that the student is also entered for the subject exams in the October/November catch up series.

Once the school has received an appeal, we will check that the grade that has been submitted to the exam board is correct. We will also check with the subject department that the grade they have given is accurate based on the evidence of class work, coursework (if applicable) and mock exams we have for the student.

If an error has been identified in the grading process then the school will submit the appeal and including the evidence to support the appeal to the exam board.

Where no error has been found in either the submission if the grade to the exam board for the calculation of the grade based on the evidence of work of the student then we will not be able to submit an appeal to the exam board. The student can however still resit the exam in the October/November series.

The school has worked hard over the last 6 months to adhere to the guidance submitted by Ofqual to ensure all Centre assessed grades have been calculated correctly and fairly. If a student has started an appeal process and is unhappy with the decision, then they can raise a complaint with the school – details of the procedure are here

Independent advice is also available from Exam Results Helpline Tel. 0800 100 900 The Exam Results Helpline can provide information on appeals or complaints
